A dear friend and an icon of the TAS industry has passed away. George Meyer, the founder of Telescan, died peacefully in the presence of family members at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis County, Missouri on Wednesday, November 6th. We send our heartfelt condolences toGeorge’s wife Judy, daughters Vicki and Kim, all the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family members.
George and his wife Judy founded Telescan in 1976. George was truly a pioneer who helped pave the way for much of the continually evolving automation that keeps the telecommunications industry vibrant. We owe a debt of gratitude to George, for his ingenuity in helping to take the answering service industry from cordboards to computer technology. George founded two local telecommunication companies, Telescan Corporation and AnsaRing Service.
George was a veteran of the Army and 50-year member of Gardenville Masonic lodge. Flying his airplanes and helicopter was a lifelong passion for George who was a pilot since he was in his 20’s. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
George was a resident of Affton, Missouri working in his mother’s restaurant and graduating from Affton high school 1953. He joined the Army and served as a radio engineer. George met Judy at a TV station, and they married March 1963. Vicki and Kim soon came to complete the family. In 1984 George became “Papa” for five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. He was always “Papa.”
George’s memory will last long in the hearts and minds of everyone he knew. He will be greatly missed and cherished as we honor him and say goodbye.
