Protected Dialing: How to Protect Staff Phone Numbers from Exposure

Healthcare professionals deserve privacy as much as their patients do. Many physicians use a personal phone to text or call patients after hours. Amtelco offers a Protected Dialing feature that provides healthcare professionals an alternative secure phone call solution for patients requiring additional attention and regular check-ups via phone calls.

Amtelco can help physicians mask their phone numbers so they can continue working from home and after hours. Amtelco Secure Messages is a HIPAA-compliant application that follows strict security protocols to enable a robust yet efficient clinical messaging system. The application helps healthcare providers reduce risk, provide fast real-time messaging, and facilitate clinical communication and collaboration.

Today, the blog will focus on how Amtelco’s Protected Dialing feature can be used with the Amtelco Secure Messages solution.

Protected Dialing masks staff’s personal phone numbers by replacing their phone numbers in the Caller ID with their call center or organization’s phone number. Genesis and Intelligent Series (IS) are required to enable Protected Dialing and integrate such features with Amtelco Secure Messages. Three options for dialing phone numbers are available with Genesis Dialing settings in the Amtelco Secure Messages Group Properties. Dialing Mode

Phone: In Phone mode, phone numbers are dialed directly from the device, and the device’s phone number is displayed on the screen.

DISA: DISA mode uses Genesis Direct Inward Dialing (DID) Phone Number and a Protected Dialing Passcode to create an overdial, which displays the organization’s or call center’s phone number rather than the device’s phone number.

Option: The Option mode allows users to choose between “Dial direct” to dial directly from the device or “Mask my phone number” to use DISA to dial through Genesis each time a user calls.

Dialing from the Android App

To dial the number within the Amtelco Secure Messages app, touch the number to call. If the Group is configured for the Optional Dialing Mode, two options will display on the screen: to dial directly from your device, select “Dial direct.” To have your call center or organization’s number shown on the Caller ID, select “Mask my phone number.”

Dialing from the iOS App

To dial from the Amtelco Secure Messages app on iOS, tap the number to dial or copy it. The phone number menu will display if the Group is configured for the Option Dialing Mode. To dial direct, select “Call Phone Number.” To route the call through your call center or organization and have their number shown on the Caller ID, select “Mask Your Phone Number.”

Lastly, Amtelco Secure Messages provides healthcare providers with more robust clinical communication security. Amtelco’s Protected Dialing feature is available for Android and Apple users and is enabled after integrating Genesis and IS into Amtelco Secure Messages. Healthcare administrators can configure the system to allow providers to choose between Direct Dialing or Masking the Caller ID or to always mask calls made through the Amtelco Secure Messages app. With Protected Dialing integrated with Amtelco Secure Messages, administrators can help protect healthcare providers from exposing their phone numbers.
